Norwegian Spirit guests give back with take 3 for the sea

In a first for Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL), guests on board Norwegian Spirit will be offered a complimentary beach clean-up shore excursion in Eden, NSW during the ship’s inaugural Australian cruise.

At the same, the cruise line will encourage guests to ‘take 3 for the sea’ at each port of call Down Under, allowing guests to give back by taking meaningful action in support of partner organisation Take 3 for the Sea.

Take 3 for the Sea is a not-for-profit organisation that encourages individuals to take three pieces of rubbish with them each time they visit a beach, park or bushland area to help prevent plastic from entering Australia and New Zealand’s waterways and oceans.

NCL has partnered with Take 3 for the Sea to support reaching its ambitious goal of removing 50 million pieces of plastic from the environment by 2025.

As the first NCL ship to sail Australian waters for three years, Norwegian Spirit’s maiden call to Eden on NSW’s Sapphire Coast on 23 December 2022 will also be the first port of call during the ship’s 12-day Trans-Tasman Christmas cruise.

Under the guidance of an expert from Take 3 for the Sea, the complimentary beach clean-up excursion will allow guests to roll up their sleeves to help the community and enjoy a sense of camaraderie with fellow travellers as they learn about the hidden impact of plastic pollution to our oceans and wildlife.

Eden was selected as the location to launch the shore excursion and allow guests an opportunity to give back to this regional community to kick off the Christmas season, while contributing to the town’s ongoing rejuvenation as a tourism and cruise destination following the impact of the bushfires and travel restrictions.

“We are absolutely elated to expand our partnership with Take for the Sea and to bring this shore excursion to life in an inspiring first for NCL,” Ben Angell, VP and managing director, NCL APAC, said.

“We are committed to driving a positive impact in society and the environment, and we are delighted to offer our guests an authentic opportunity to show their Christmas spirit by taking real action to fight plastic pollution, something which would not have been possible without the incredible support we’ve received from the community in Eden, and the dedication of our partners at Take 3 for the Sea.”

In this expansion of its partnership with Take 3 for the Sea, NCL builds on recent joint activities such as Take 3 for the Sea’s CEO Beach Clean Up in Manly, an NCL Australia team beach clean-up in Rose Bay, and a week-long Take 3 for the Sea challenge as part of the cruise line’s award-winning annual Walk for Wellness travel industry initiative.
