Norwegian Star stuck at sea, passengers ranting

Passengers aboard The Norwegian Star are frustrated over the delays caused by last Friday’s engine failure.

The ship on route to Auckland, New Zealand, was towed back to Melbourne after it lost engine power last Friday just 30kms off Victoria’s East coast.

Passengers aboard The Norwegian star have expressed their frustration with lengthy delays and disrupted holiday plans after being told they should expect to wait three to five days before the vessel can continue on, the ABC reports.

The company expect the itinerary that commenced in Auckland on February 18 to operate as originally scheduled. While the ship undergoes repairs All guests were welcome to stay onboard while the ship docked in Melbourne and spend the time delay in Melbourne, until repairs are complete.

Not all passengers are pleased with the extra leisure time in Melbourne.

Rita Scher from New Jersey told the ABC she spent hours planning the trip, and will now miss three quarters of the ports she had scheduled to visit.

“We really put our heart and soul into this once in a lifetime trip and it’s not turning out exactly the way it’s supposed to,” Scher told the ABC.

The company has assured all passengers that they will receive compensation for the delays with full refunds, and paid flights to Auckland of up to $350 pp.
