PARKROYAL Melbourne Airport reveals multimillion-dollar refurbishment
Melbourne’s premier airport hotel, PARKROYAL Melbourne Airport, has revealed an extensive multi-million-dollar refurbishment to further enhance its appeal as the ultimate gateway for domestic and international travellers, and elevate its offering as a business event destination.
As the only hotel directly connected to the domestic and international terminals via an undercover pedestrian skybridge, PARKROYAL Melbourne Airport’s extensive revitalisation will transform the traditional ‘in transit’ experience.
An insider secret among savvy travellers, the hotel is popular with guests keen to swap the early morning rush, traffic crush, taxis, and parking hassles, for a relaxing night ahead of their flight – and an easy stroll into the terminal. Those farewelling family and friends often stay at the hotel to enjoy the facilities and celebrate together before onward travel, while business travellers regularly book in for a pre- or post-meeting night to unwind and recharge. In addition, the hotel’s convenient Day Pass makes long layovers a breeze, with guests able to swap hours in the terminal for a much-needed nap, an in-room movie, a gym workout, or a refreshing swim.
Due for completion in late December 2023, the hotel’s contemporary new look will include all guest rooms, the lobby, restaurant, café, and bar, as well as the hotel’s expansive meeting and events floor.
“This refurbishment will elevate the experience for guests staying at the hotel, as well as those attending our myriad business events,” said Cameron Mead, General Manager of PARKROYAL Melbourne Airport. “We are excited to welcome guests to discover our contemporary new interior design aesthetic which has been influenced by Melbourne’s unique personality and inspired by diverse Victorian aerial landscapes, from the city’s grid-style urban planning to the organic form of the Yarra River.”
Located just 30 minutes from Melbourne’s CBD, PARKROYAL Melbourne Airport is the only hotel directly connected to the domestic and international terminals via an undercover pedestrian skybridge, offering unrivalled convenience – alongside spectacular runway and Melbourne skyline views. The hotel offers 276 rooms, including eight suites and eight family rooms.
Onsite amenities include modern Australian restaurant Airo, the casual Airo Café for coffee and quick bites, and Airo Bar, which is a favoured social spot to unwind and enjoy boutique beers, regional wines, and specialty cocktails with fellow travellers. A fully equipped 24-hour gymnasium, heated indoor lap pool, spa, sauna, and steam room further enhance the guest experience by helping guests unwind before their onward journey.
For those hosting and attending meetings, conferences, and events at PARKROYAL Melbourne Airport, there is a raft of options to choose from, including an impressive, reimagined ballroom and 14 newly refurbished function rooms, all showcasing the latest smart technology and state-of-the-art audio-visual equipment. The hotel also offers dedicated on-site AV and planning teams to ensure every event runs seamlessly.
Refurbishment highlights will include:
Lobby – creating a voluminous, light-filled contemporary arrival space featuring curated accents for visual interest.
Guestrooms – spacious and serene, the newly refurbished guest rooms are designed for comfort, showcasing a muted colour palette inspired by Australian lifestyles and nature. Every piece of furniture will be custom designed using plush fabrics alongside luminous metal finishes. Modern daybed lounges provide the ideal spot to relax and enjoy the view in comfort. To improve each room’s functionality, luggage access, hanging space, and the minibar offering will all be enhanced.
Airo Restaurant and Bar – the renovation includes a patterned, gridded ceiling and a range of seating zones and social spaces which provide guests with the option to engage and connect, or retreat and unwind in a warm, comfortable environment.
Event spaces – the 300-seat ballroom and extensive suite of 14 meeting rooms will receive a sophisticated makeover which exudes understated formality via muted colour palettes and tailored furniture and fabrics.
Sustainability has been considered throughout the redesign process, with existing joinery upgraded and re-purposed in multiple areas to promote a circular economy, and antimicrobial and sustainable materials selected wherever possible to improve longevity and minimise waste.
