RCL names new MD for Australia and NZ, as Susan Bonner departs

Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. (RCL) has announced the appointment of Gavin Smith as its new managing director across Australia and New Zealand.

In his new role, Smith will focus on delivering further growth for the Royal Caribbean, Celebrity and Azamara brands.

Smith has spent 11 years working in both local and global roles with RCL, including four years as senior vice president of international.

His return to Australia comes as Susan Bonner moves to Miami to lead a new strategic project for Celebrity Cruises.

Michael Bayley, CEO of Royal Caribbean International, said: “No one is more passionate about the Australia and New Zealand markets than Gavin, and we are excited to welcome him back to his home market after a successful term leading our international team.

“I want to thank Susan for her contributions to the Australian and New Zealand region and we look forward to welcoming her back to our Miami campus.”

Gavin’s appointment as MD for Australia and New Zealand is effective immediately.
