Australia’s frequent flyers were asked which airline has the best rewards program, with the results including several international and domestic carriers.

From a poll of community members at Point Hacks, respondents were asked to vote for the program that delivers the best flight availability and the best value for points-per-flight.

The Qantas Frequent Flyer program secured the most votes nationally (33 per cent of respondents), followed by Virgin Australia’s Velocity Frequent Flyer; however, respondents in Queensland (34 per cent), the ACT (55 per cent) and Tasmania (48 per cent) rated Velocity as their rewards program of choice.

Point Hacks observed that lower income earners voted Velocity as the leading program more than higher earners: 35 per cent of voters earning less than $50,000 annually preferred Velocity, against just 23 per cent of the same income earners who voted for Qantas.

Singapore Airlines’ KrisFlyer is the favourite rewards program for investors and shareholders, with 40 per cent of respondents in these roles. KrisFlyer came in third place over all, with a quarter (25 per cent) of frequent flyers finding the best value in the program.

Australia’s most reputable brand, Air New Zealand, did not make the top five for best airline rewards program.

Here’s the list of the best national rewards programs as voted by Australian frequent flyers:

  1. Qantas Frequent Flyer
  2. Virgin Australia – Velocity Frequent Flyer
  3. Singapore Airlines – KrisFlyer
  4. Cathay Pacific – Asia Miles
  5. Emirates – Skyward Miles
  6. Etihad – Etihad Guest
  7. Air New Zealand – Airpoints
  8. British Airways
