REVEALED: The most popular international destinations for Aussie travellers

New research has revealed the most popular overseas destinations for Australian travellers, with some unexpected cities fast-becoming hotspots.

According to Hotels.com’s annual Hotel Price Index, Bali unsurprisingly topped the list for most popular international destinations once again in 2018, followed by Singapore, which also ranked second in 2017.

Tokyo, Japan moved up three places in the 2018 list to third, while England capital London rose one spot to rank fourth. Bangkok, Thailand rounded out the top five, falling two places from 2017.

Of the destinations that made the list, Istanbul in Turkey experienced the biggest growth in popularity among Aussie travellers over the last 12 months, rising a whopping 33 places to 41st.

Manchester, England was the next highest riser (up 29 places to 93rd), followed by Japanese cities Chiba (up 27 places to 98th), Hiroshima (up 24 places to 80th) and Sapporo (up 15 places to 77th).
