Rex kicks off new flights from Perth to Adelaide, Melbourne
Edited by Travel Weekly

REX is today celebrating the launch of its flights from Perth and Adelaide ushering in a new era of competitive pricing for WA travellers after almost 15 years.

Flight ZL1212 from Perth to Adelaide will be the first of four Rex services scheduled for departure today at 11:55am (AWST), with flights between Melbourne and Perth leaving later this evening.

Rex chairman the Hon. John Sharp AM has thanked the hundreds of passengers travelling on its inaugural services for their patronage, and urged Australians to ‘give Rex a go’.

“This is a milestone moment for Rex, and one our amazing staff have worked so hard towards since our first domestic service roared down the runway just a few years ago,” he said.

“On behalf of Rex Airlines, I want to thank the three State Governments and each of the Airports and Tourism bodies who got behind us but especially, I wish to thank our passengers.

“We are delighted you chose to fly with us today and we hope you and many more Australians will give Rex a go because we are delivering more competition, all you have to do is support us.”

Data released this week by the Bureau of Infrastructure and Transport Research Economics (BITRE) revealed Rex had the best domestic on-time performance and lowest cancellation rate of the major carriers.

The Australian Airports Association confirmed to media last week that Rex’s initial domestic sale fares to Perth were the cheapest in almost 15 years, while its standard fares were the lowest in a decade.

To celebrate the departure of its inaugural services today, Rex announced a snap sale overnight with fares to Perth between Melbourne and Adelaide from $149 one way.

Australia’s Airline of the Year and Skytrax World Airline Awards winner is flying five days a week between Melbourne and Perth with its Boeing 737s, and three days a week between Adelaide and Perth using National Jet Express (NJE) Embraer E-190 jets. Charter service NJE is part of the Rex Group.
