Search launched for Titanic tourists including billionaire aviator after submarine goes missing

An urgent search has been launched for a submarine that has gone missing while visiting the wreckage of the Titanic.

The U.S. Coast Guard confirmed the search operation was underway and said there was one pilot and four passengers on board.

The vessel can operate for up to four days on its own, but one former passenger says there’s barely any supplies onboard.

“There’s no food and water, apart from the one sandwich and the one water bottle you bring with you – all there is by way of a toilet is basically a big ziplock bag.” Podcast host David Pogue told News Nation.

Ships and aircraft have swarmed to the area nearly 1500km east of Cape Cod.

“It is a remote area and it is a challenge to conduct a search in that remote area,” U.S. Coast Guard Rear Admiral John Mauger told media.

“We are deploying all available assets to make sure that we can locate the craft and rescue the people on board,” he said.

“Going into this evening we will continue to fly aircraft and move additional vessels.”

OceanGate Expeditions, the operator of the submarine missing said it was “mobilising all options” to rescue those on board.

Dubai based British Hamish Harding is one of the passengers onboard, according to a family member.

The businessman, pilot, tourist, and space tourist is the owner of Action Aviation.
