The ultimate dinner theatre and rail experience is coming to the South Island this August, as Great Journeys New Zealand invites guests to uncover a murderer in their midst aboard a scenic train journey.

“Guests are invited to the wedding of the decade – that decade being the 1930s,” says general manager Great Journeys New Zealand and Commuter Tracey Goodall.

“In this immersive, interactive experience traveling on the South Island train journey, we’re inviting passengers onboard for a night of mystery and Hollywood romance.”

Murder on the Tormore Express departs from Christchurch Railway Station on the evening of Saturday, 17 August.

The glamorous guests at the wedding of aristocrat Lady Arabella Ashford and star of the silver screen Rex Cable, passengers will be called on to solve the mystery when murder interrupts the festivities.

“Led by professional facilitators from The Court Theatre, guests will watch the drama unfold, match wits with the suspects and sift through the clues while enjoying a seven-course degustation menu with paired beverages,” says Goodall.

“Most importantly, they’ll be tasked with finding the killer before they strike again.”

Guests can book with friends or use the experience as an opportunity to meet new ones, as the carriage tables will be set for four.
