South African Tourism wows the industry with bucket list famil

Nine lucky guests won a spot on a ten-day Bucket List famil to South Africa, thanks to South Africa Tourism and Singapore Airlines, after having watched in-person or virtually, “The South Africa Show with Julia Morris” in March.

The famil visited the bustling city of Johannesburg, the picturesque Cape Town, the gorgeous wine town Franschhoek and the Big 5 game reserve of Marekele National Park (Setswana for place of sanctuary).

Guests got to tick off what is undoubtedly at the top of many a Bucket List – a wildlife safari – at the luxurious Marataba safari lodge. Here, they spotted a wide variety of game including elephants, rhinos and even a lion, while out on their drives – in between enjoying non-stop meals, sundowners and laying by the pool amid the sweeping surrounds.

The group also ascended Cape Town’s iconic Table Mountain by Cable Car; met the endangered African penguins at Boulders Beach; visited Nelson Mandela’s former house in South Africa’s largest township of Soweto; and enjoyed a culinary tour on the Franschhoek wine tram in the spectacular Cape Winelands, truly the best way to travel between tastings.

Upon their return, the group reported that the value-for-money was really surprising; and that their highlight was the ‘Exceptional Wine and Cuisine’ experience on the wine tram – which is perhaps less surprising.

Acting hub head South African Tourism Australasia, Yana Shvarts said: “One thing COVID has shown us, is we can’t put off the things we want to do in life – our Bucket List. South Africa offers up Bucket List-worthy experiences in spades (pardon the pun) – whether it’s the quintessential safari; following in the footsteps of one of the world’s most inspiring leaders; taking on an exhilarating adventure activity; or standing atop one of the world’s most iconic mountains.”

“Now, not only have nine travel agents been able to have these life-changing experiences, they’re also well-equipped to help their clients realise their South African Bucket List dreams too.”
