Spanx founder gifts employees first-class plane tickets to “anywhere in the world” and $10,000

Shapewear mogul Sara Blakely recently surprised her employees with first-class plane tickets and $10,000 spending money, so please excuse us while we pick our jaws up off the ground.

Blakely threw a party in late October to celebrate the success of Spanx, which she has just sold for about $1.61 billion.

She posted footage from the celebration on social media, revealing that when she founded Spanx 21 years ago, people laughed at her when she told them her company would one day be worth $20 million.

“To stand here today, and think about what we’ve been able to create and what we’ve been able to do by being authentic and kind and delivering amazing products to women to use their very feminine principles in a very masculine space which is business, leading with intuition, vulnerability… this marks a moment for female entrepreneurs,” she said.

About halfway through the clip, Blakely spun a globe and told her employees she had bought them two first-class Delta Air Line plane tickets that they could use to fly “anywhere in the world”.

“If you go on a trip, you might want to go out to a really nice dinner, you might want to go out to a really nice hotel, and so… you are each getting $10,000,” she added.

“This is a very big moment for each and every one of you, and I want to toast the women that came before me and all of the women in the world who have not had this opportunity.”

The footage shows employees crying, cheering and embracing each other and, to be honest, we would probably have passed out or thrown up from excitement if it were us.

It’s not clear just how many of her employees will enjoy this perk, but it is estimated that around 750 people work for the company in total.
