Spilled eels on a plane gets Vancouver ground staff squirming
Edited by Travel Weekly

In a post that will get every air traveller squirming in their seat, dozens of slippery eels escaped after their container opened during unloading at Vancouver airport.

Video posted to social media shows dozens of live eels squirming on the apron surface around an Air Canada plane at YVR.

The airport said ground handlers were unloading an aircraft when a shipment of eels opened and spilled onto the ground.

Air Canada said in a statement that the flight had landed from Toronto and the container had accidentally spilled during unloading, allowing some of the eels to escape. One person can be heard screaming as the eels made their way down the luggage loader on to the tarmac.

The eels were collected and subsequently repackaged, the airline said. Airport operations were not affected by the spill.
