Steve McLaughlin joins Oceania Cruises

Steve McLaughlin joins Oceania Cruises

Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCLH) has snagged industry veteran Steve McLaughlin as its first vice president of sales for its upper premium cruise brand, Oceania Cruises.

McLaughlin will join the company on March 13, and stems from a strategic decision on behalf of parent company Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings to build dedicated local leadership teams for each of its three distinct brands; Oceania Cruises; Norwegian Cruise Line and Regent Seven Seas Cruises.

The move comes in response to the company’s continued growth in the Australasian market.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Steve on board at such a crucial time for Oceania Cruises in Australasia,” said Steve Odell, senior vice president and MD for NCLH, Asia-Pacific.

“Our local Australia office has had an incredibly successful first year, and NCLH is firmly committed to further expansion in the three distinct market segments represented by our brands.

“With almost 30 years’ experience in the luxury cruise sector, including brands such as Cunard and Ponant, Steve is the ideal candidate to take the helm of Oceania’s dedicated local sales team and to drive penetration in the Australasian market, lining up with NCLH’s broader strategy to continue building each brand as a unique business to the benefit of our trade partners and guests alike.”

Commenting on his appointment, Steve McLaughlin added, “The local market’s appetite for cruising shows no sign of abating, with savvy cruisers seeking unique and niche cruising experiences, such as Oceania Cruises’ focus on creating immersive itineraries and a dedication to offering the finest cuisine at sea.

“This is a transformational time for the Australasian cruise sector, and I can’t wait to join the local team and introduce more local travellers to Oceania Cruises, the market leader in the premium cruise sector.”

Sister brand, Regent Seven Seas Cruises will also benefit from this decision, with a new dedicated sales team led by Lisa Pile, VP sales, Regent Seven Seas Cruises.

Nicole Costantin, VP sales NCL, will continue to lead Norwegian Cruise Line’s acceleration in the Australasian market with special focus on the home porting of Norwegian Jewel in Sydney commencing November 2017.
