The environment is the real winner: The Sustainable Flight Challenge by SkyTeam

The SkyTeam Alliance, one of three major airline alliances – with an annual passenger count of over 630 million – has launched it’s second Sustainable Flight Challenge (TSFC) to take place in May 2023.

The challenge, which held it’s first edition last year, aims to encourages the alliance’s member airlines to create new way and utilise new technologies with the end goal of creating more sustainable options for the industry.

In 2023, the event is being held for “friends and family” carriers in a bid to bring more competitors and their ideas to the competition.

Last year’s challenge reportedly sparked hundreds of new ideas in the realms of greener air travel, across flights operated in the challenge, carbon intensity was reduced by 15 per cent.

“The transformation needed to reduce aviation’s environmental impact cannot happen by working in isolation. Our members are sharing a wealth of creative ideas and showing immense commitment in our bold ambition of making The Sustainable Flight Challenge force for change,” Patrick Roux, CEO MD, SkyTeam, said.

“With sustainability as a key pillar of SkyTeam’s strategy, we are excited to extend this year’s challenge to other airlines and industry partners to spark more creativity and find more innovations. By sharing knowledge and workable solutions we can deliver a more sustainable experience for customers while helping decarbonize aviation to better protect the planet.
