The Star Brisbane launches new light and sound experience
Edited by Travel Weekly

The Star Brisbane has launched Sono Lumo, an electrifying immersive light and sound experience set to supercharge the city’s festive holiday celebrations.

Sono Lumo, presented by The Star Brisbane in partnership with global experiential agency Rizer, invites Brisbane to experience ten festive nights of audiovisual spectacular that activates the Queen’s Wharf precinct and Riverline.

It features a diverse line-up of entertainment, DJs, and musicians, peaking with Carols Rewired, a four-part visual journey soundtracked to a pulsating fusion of EDM and festive motifs programmed by Brisbane-born DJ Young Franco.

The inaugural light and sound experience will be complemented by seasonally inspired food and drink pop-ups across the precinct, with well-known Brisbane restaurants such as Fat Noodle and Luc Lac preparing limited-edition bites and tipples for a Taste of the Star.

Hospitality of The Star Brisbane chief operating officer, Kelvin Dodt, said Sono Lumo will be this year’s headline activity for Christmas in Brisbane, joining other much-loved traditions like the lighting of the Christmas Tree and The Lord Mayor’s Christmas Carols.

“Christmas is when this jewel of a city truly shines, and as one of the newest destinations in Brisbane, we are beyond excited to be a part of the city’s Christmas program in 2024 and beyond,” Kelvin Dodt said. “Sono Lumo will add a modern and unique layer to an already exciting Christmas program that Brisbane looks forward to every year and helps the city on its journey to becoming Australia’s Christmas Capital.

“Named for Sonoluminescence, the phenomenon of producing light from sounds, Sono Lumo is an immersive world class experience that Brisbane has never seen or heard before. Sono Lumo is the first of many events The Star Brisbane and Queen’s Wharf will host within free and easily accessible public spaces throughout the resort and precinct, which transformed a previously underutilised part of the city.”

Rizer Global founder and CEO, Barry Wafer, said that Sono Lumo will be a spectacular combination of cutting-edge light technology, with Brisbane’s best musical talent/

“Rizer is thrilled to be partnering with The Star Brisbane to bring our creative technology storytelling to Brisbane,” Barry Wafer said. “Sono Lumo will light up Brisbane’s riverfront and heritage buildings at Queen’s Wharf, creating a unique walkthrough experience Brisbane won’t have seen before.

“The event will highlight Brisbane DJs and entertainers across the full program, featuring a hero show on the facade of The Star with music programmed by Brisbane DJ and artist, Young Franco.”

The main hourly show, programmed by Young Franco, sets the scene for the Sono Lumo experience and is enhanced by a wider line-up of Brisbane’s most exciting electronic musicians and DJs to keep the heartbeat of Sono Lumo thumping from start to finish.

Food trucks and pop-up bars will satisfy keen patrons, giving guests the opportunity to sample signature dishes from The Star Brisbane’s hero restaurants including Cucina Regina and Babblers, as well as Luc Lacc and Fat Noodle.

Sumo Lumo is free to the public and open from 4 to 15 December. It is supported by a wider program of Christmas activities at The Star Brisbane including, the ultimate Festive Season Ball, Not so Silent Christmas Ball on Thrusday 5 December, Christmas Day Dining and The Star Brisbane Christmas Hampers.
