    The Travel Corporations (TTC) publishes its third annual Impact Report, with notable progress on climate action to advance its MAKE TRAVEL MATTER commitment.

    The 2023 progress report outlines progress of its five-year sustainability strategy launched in September 2020, which features 11 measurable goals. It is led by the group’s decarbonisation efforts to achieve Net Zero or near zero emissions by 2050 or sooner.

    Carbon Fund investments included the installation of solar panels at the NSW head offices of TTC (Bondi Junction) and AAT Kings (Alexandria), and the implementation of Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil biofuel. They also surpassed the goal to source at least 50 per cent of electricity needs from renewable sources by 2025, by reaching 54 per cent in 2023. TTC properties also produced solar energy equivalent to the needed electricity to power 150 homes for a year.

    In another industry-first step, TTC also ended the purchase of branded merchandise designed to be gifted to guests and partners as it produces 6.5 million car-driven miles worth of carbon emissions yearly. The funds were reallocated to nature-based climate solutions already supported by their TreadRight Foundation.

    Key highlights from the 2023 report

    Planet:

    • Investment or allocation of the $1,880,533 carbon fund to over 13 decarbonisation projects
    • Reduced the Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 31 per cent, and Scope 3 emissions by 5 per cent
    • Established a Net Zero Trip Roadmap to reduce emissions by 27.5 per cent by 2030
    • Sourced 54 per cent of its electricity needs, an increase of 10 per cent from 2022
    • 32 TTC owned properties run on 100 per cent renewable energy
    • Reduced the equivalent of 304,027 meals’ worth of food waste across TTC
    • Reduced printed brochures by 80 per cent from 2019
    • Completely removed single-use plastics related to Covid-19 measures
    • Engaged with suppliers in areas with non-potable water to utilise water tanks to refill reusable water bottles

    • 824 MAKE TRAVEL MATTER Experiences offered across TTC
    • 84 per cent of TTC itineraries have at least one MAKE TRAVEL MATTER Experience
    • Increased TTC itineraries visiting developing regions by 37 per cent from the 2021 baseline
    • In 2023, TTC identified 24 itineraries visiting 34 developing regions
    • AAT Kings includes welcome plaques designed by Indigenous artists on their coaches throughout Australia
    • TTC IDEA boasts 500 members of its Identity Circles
    • TTC has 6 partnerships focused solely on advancing diversity, equity and inclusion
    • Of the 3,000 employees, 100% across the globe signed the Code of Conduct, demonstrating a universal commitment to ethical standards
    • Contiki New Zealand Trip Managers and Drivers began an extensive training program to strengthen crew competency in Māori history, culture, customs/Tikanga and language
    • Completed 10,862 volunteer hours across TTC, reaching 83 per cent of the 2025 goal

    Wildlife:

    • Audited 600 wildlife experiences and safari lodges to ensure 100 per cent compliance with their Animal Welfare Policy
    • All of their wildlife experiences were reviewed by the TreadRight team to ensure adherence to TTC’s Animal Welfare Policy
