Ticket prices for the Eiffel Tower skyrocket by an eye-watering 20% ahead of Paris 2024 Olympics
Have you ever wanted to see the Eiffel Tower? Well, you might need to remortgage your house and put your children to work because tickets for the world-famous attraction are nearly as high as the landmark itself.
Aussies (and other tourists – this isn’t a targeted attack) can expect to pay 20 per cent more for their tickets to the towering Paris attraction starting from next month.
Starting from 17 June the adult price for a ticket to the top of the Eiffel Tower will increase from €29.40 (about AU$48) to €35.30 ($58), according to delicious.com.au.
Even if you have the mental fortitude to take the stairs, you’ll still find your pocket considerably lighter with stair access ticket prices increasing from €11.80 ($20) to €14.20 ($23).
Mercifully, children under four can still visit the attraction for free.
According to French TV channel BFMTV, the move is in reaction to a loss of revenue from Covid. Whilst the attraction usually pulls in 7 million tourists on an annual basis, this number was pushed down to 1.5 million in 2020.
Louvre price sting
The Eiffel Tower is not the only attraction in Paris to bump up its prices. The Louvre Museum is said to be lifting its prices by 30 per cent – up to €22 ($36) from €17 ($28). This is the first time the museum has lifted its prices since 2017.
Transport costs will also be up during the games. The subway ticket price for a single journey during the games is set to double to €4 ($6.5). It is expected to go back to normal once the games have finished.
