Tourism NT campaign lures Aussies with promise of early summer

Nitmiluk National Park covers a vast area of escarpment country, including 13 gorges along the Katherine River carved from the ancient sandstone country.

The Northern Territory is hoping to attract more domestic visitors by promising Aussies a break from the horrible weather most of us have been braving these past few months.

As the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has reported a 50 per cent chance that La Niña will form again later in 2022 (double the normal likelihood), Tourism NT has commissioned new research into consumer sentiment and travel plans of Australians ahead of the summer season.

The research revealed that 84 per cent of Australians feel their ability to enjoy summer has been impacted over the past three years, and 68 per cent are eager to take advantage of the upcoming summer early.

Now with the Bureau of Meteorology’s latest announcement that a negative Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) event is underway – predicting rainfall over southern and eastern Australia, along with warmer days in northern Australia – Tourism NT said there’s no better time to head north to ensure Australians don’t miss out on a warm weather break this year.

Supported by real-time weather report comparisons running across out-of-home advertising, cinema, TV and digital alongside paid and earned media and influencer partnerships, Tourism NT is highlighting the benefits of heading up north to enjoy the early summer-like conditions.

To avoid the disappointment of another sub-par summer, executive director of marketing at Tourism NT, Tony Quarmby, said Aussies should take advantage of the Territory’s warm weather from September, which is also typically the off-peak season – meaning cheaper flights, fewer crowds and bigger savings through tourism deals on experiences.

“With our new research finding that 63 per cent of Australians would consider getting their summer holiday in early if they could expect summer-like conditions, we are encouraging holidaymakers to whip out their short-sleeves and enjoy an early summer from September in the Territory,” Quarmby said.

“We know that almost half of the country is planning to take a holiday this spring or summer. With La Niña unfortunately showing warnings of continuing into this summer and a negative IOD event underway, we’re inviting Aussies that are sick of the rain and cold to join us for an early summer full of adventure and fun, with a range of great deals and savings.”

Those eager to jump at the chance of an early summer can enjoy early bird summer deals with massive savings to consumers travelling from September 2022 to March 2023.

Aussies can enjoy up to 30 per cent of savings on packages from Webjet, Expedia, Travello, Holidays of Australia, Tripadvisor and Britz.
