Tragedy at Bali’s Ubud Monkey Forest as tree collapse kills two
Edited by Travel Weekly

A freak event claimed the lives of two tourists at the popular Ubud Monkey Forest in Bali on Tuesday afternoon local time when a large tree branch collapsed.

A 32-year-old French woman and a 42-year-old Korean woman were fatally injured.

At around 12:30 pm a sudden storm with strong winds and heavy rain arrived with eyewitnesses reporting hearing a loud cracking sound before the massive branch fell, striking multiple people.

Emergency services and fellow tourists swiftly responded to the scene, rescuing several individuals and transporting them to a nearby hospital.

“This incident was caused by strong winds and extreme weather conditions beyond human control,” the reserve said.

“Our team has taken swift action to evacuate the affected area and ensure the safety and comfort of other visitors. We are also working closely with authorities to address this situation thoroughly.

“We deeply appreciate everyone’s understanding and support during this difficult time.”

While authorities are still investigating the exact cause of the accident, the park management insists that the fallen branch appeared healthy and that regular tree maintenance is conducted.

Video footage from the park captures the terrifying moment, showing visitors looking up at the canopy just before the branch fell. The ground was quickly covered in debris as people scrambled to safety.

The Ubud Monkey Forest will remain closed until Thursday as authorities continue their investigation and clean-up efforts.
