Travel Portland will be pushing an always-on trade program, re-establishing connections with key trade partners and coordinating agent famil trips as part of push around the Visit USA Expos in Australia/NZ.

“We are excited to be back in the Australian market after a hiatus of several years as a result of the pandemic,” Travel Portland director of international tourism administration Heather Anderson, said. “We feel that now is the right time to be back with Portland re-establishing itself as a vibrant and exciting U.S. destination.”

Located in the US Pacific Northwest, Portland is the largest city in the state of Oregon with a population of 2.3 million people. It offers 145 square miles of exciting things to do, eat, drink, see, hike and explore. It is best known for being a sustainability-minded, bike-friendly city with easy access to nature; plentiful coffee, art, craft beer, delicious food and live music; and crafty people who celebrate individuality and creativity.

Sydney-based boutique PR agency, Barking Owl Communications, has been re-appointed by Travel Portland, the official destination-marketing organisation.

“We are looking forward to another successful partnership,” Jill Collins, owner of Barking Owl Communications, said. “When we previously worked together we were able to exponentially drive awareness for the destination through a series of innovative consumer and trade initiatives which leaned heavily into Portland’s rich ‘makers’ culture.

“Our engagement will begin with a back-to-basics trade program as we re-establish Portland with key partners but it also has the potential of evolving into something bigger.”

Jill Collins will oversee the account. Rebecca George will join the Travel Portland account team working as Trade Manager to deliver all the key elements of the program with important trade and industry partners in Australia and New Zealand.

George, a sales and marketing professional with 20 years’ experience in the travel industry has worked alongside Barking Owl in the past on programs such as Tourism Oita.
