United Airlines has added more direct flights from San Francisco International Airport to Sydney, expanding the airline’s leadership position in overall service to Australia from the United States.

The three weekly flights – starting on 14 December and scheduled through 8 February – will add to United’s existing daily service on this route for a total of ten weekly flights between Sydney and San Francisco.

“United has a great history serving Australia and with our new codeshare partnership with Virgin Australia, the future is even brighter,” said Patrick Quayle, senior vice president of global network planning and alliances at United.

“With strong demand for the upcoming northern winter season, we’re proud to add even more travel options for our customers, both in the U.S. and in Australia.”

This winter, United will offer more service to Australia than ever before and will offer more seats from the US to Australia than any other airline.

With the addition of Brisbane – which United will serve from San Francisco starting on 28 October – United will have nonstop service from the US to each of Australia’s three largest cities, while no other US carrier serves more than one location.

United will serve six different non-stop routes in total, with non-stop flights originating in three different US hubs.

In total, United will fly:

  • San Francisco – Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney
  • Los Angeles – Melbourne and Sydney
  • Houston – Sydney

All Australia services are on Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, except for San Francisco to Sydney service, which is on 777-300ERs.
