Shakira to headline Washington DC WorldPride 2025

The Capital Pride Alliance (CPA) and InterPride have announced the theme for WorldPride in Washington DC next year: ‘The Fabric of Freedom’. 

The theme aims underscores unity and act as a global call to action for LGBTQ+ individuals and allies.

Scheduled from May 17 to June 8, 2025, WorldPride in Washington DC will run from 17 May to 8 June 2025 and coincide with the the 50th anniversary of Pride celebrations in the U.S. capital. The event is set to draw three million visitors from around the globe.

“Washington, DC has long been a leader in LGBTQ+ rights, and we’re so excited to bring the world together for the Pride of our life at WorldPride 2025,” Mayor Muriel Bowser said.

“With this year’s theme, ‘The Fabric of Freedom,’ we’re welcoming the world to DC to share and celebrate our DC values of unity, diversity, and compassion. I invite everyone to plan their trip to DC and join us.”

“This year’s theme will be woven through all of our events. No matter the political landscape, Capital Pride Alliance’s dedication of championing inclusion, safety, and advocating for all members of the LGBTQ+ community remains unwavering,” CPA executive director Ryan Bos said.

“Drawing from our history of resistance, perseverance, and struggle, we will keep working together to build a future where every individual can live freely as themselves.”

Highlights of WorldPride DC 2025

  • Welcome Concert: Global superstar and LGBTQ+ advocate Shakira will headline the opening concert on May 31.
  • Capital Cup Sports Festival: LGBTQ+ athletes will come together for friendly competition.
  • WorldPride Human Rights Conference: From June 4–6, this event will focus on inclusion and amplify marginalized voices within the LGBTQ+ community.
  • WorldPride Music Festival: A two-day extravaganza at RFK Festival Grounds featuring diverse artists and musical genres.
  • WorldPride Parade and Street Festival: The vibrant parade on June 7 will culminate with a two-day street festival showcasing exhibitors, artisans, and food.

The event will conclude with a spectacular closing ceremony on June 8, highlighting a montage of the week’s events and an interactive art installation
