Wendy Wu Tours appoints new Aussie GM of sales

Wendy Wu Tours has appointed Simon Bell as its new Aussie general manager of sales.

Based in Melbourne, and reporting to the company’s global CEO, Glen Mintrim, Bell will lead the sales arm of Wendy Wu’s Australian office, driving the company’s three-year growth and development plans as well as widening the operator’s focus on both trade and direct business.

Bell brings a vast portfolio of leadership and sales experience to the role, previously working as head of sales at STA Travel Australia where he was instrumental in increasing efficiency throughout the business, as well as revolutionising both the customers’ and agents’ experience throughout the group.

More recently Bell carried the role of director of sales for Quest Apartment Hotels, leading the national corporate sales team.

Mintrim welcomed Bell to the newly created role and said his track record with “some of the industry’s most profitable and successful travel companies is very impressive”.

“Plus, he has the international experience and contacts in this sector, making him ideal for the role,” he said

“The company is experiencing a very strong period of growth, on a forward trajectory for 2023 that will see us surpass 2019 business levels.

“In addition, we are launching more new products, and increasing destination choice, than ever before, and so we look forward to having Simon at the helm to ensure all distribution channels continue to work at their maximum and optimised levels.”

Bell said it was a real privilege to be at the helm of a company with a deserved reputation as the leading travel specialist within Australia for Asia, South America and indeed now Europe and the Middle East.

“We have set out an ambitious and exciting five-year plan for the business, a plan that will see us launching more innovative and new products as well as delivering a world-class sales experience to our trade partners and direct customers,” he said.

“We absolutely value the continued support of our trade partners and hence will be rolling out more agent incentives and a series of exciting educationals over the next twelve months.”
