‘When you wish upon a star’ – Family of 4 rescued by Disney cruise ship

‘When you wish upon a star’ – Family of 4 rescued by Disney cruise ship

A Disney cruise ship came to the rescue after a family of four found themselves in difficulty when their catamaran blew a gasket.

The 50-foot catamaran – called the Serenity – was about 490 kilometres off the coast of Bermuda when it began taking in water following the blown gasket in the escape hatch. A couple, their daughter and a cousin were onboard.

Thankfully, a brand new Disney Treasure was around 148 kilometres away, and was able to respond when the US Coast Guard broadcast a request for assistance from the nearest ship.

The Disney Treasure was headed from Eemshaven, Netherlands, to its new home in Port Canaveral, Florida at the time.

The Treasure received the call of a vessel in distress around 11:40am and arrived at the vessel around 1pm local time.

It was able to launch a lifeboat and rescue all those onboard.

“We are pleased that the Disney Treasure was able to provide aid to the boat passengers in peril. Our crew members worked together on the rescue, skillfully demonstrating their training and commitment to safety,” said Captain Marco Nogara, captain of the Disney Treasure told CNN.
