WTM Ministers’ Summit explores emerging technology’s potential for good in tourism
Edited by Travel Weekly

The World Travel Market Ministers’ Summit with UN Tourism and WTTC will see over 50 tourism dignitaries and leaders debate the potential for AI and emerging technologies to transform the tourism industry.

The increasing demand for innovative solutions that can revolutionize how travellers experience and interact with destinations pushed the industry to the brink of profound change as a result of technological advancement. Taking place on 6 November, the Ministers’ Summit will debate the transformative potential of AI and emerging technologies in shaping the future of travel and hospitality against the ethical implications of its deployment.

This year’s summit aligns with World Travel Market’s TravelPower campaign, which aims to convey the potential of the tourism industry to drive positive change. The discussion includes how AI promises enhanced experiences and streamlined processes, and how to ensure that these advancements align with ethical standards.

Another key discussion point includes how equitable access to AI technology is essential to prevent existing socio-economic disparities from becoming even further entrenched. The debate explores the best ways to bridge the digital divide and ensure that all stakeholders have access to the benefits of AI in tourism.

World Travel Market London exhibition director, Juliette Losardo, said: “The Ministers’ Summit represents the biggest annual gathering of Tourism Ministers anywhere in the world. As such, it plays a vital role acting as a platform for debating key issues and finding solutions to shape the future of our industry.

“There has already been much debate around AI and other emerging technologies and how best to harness their potential for positive change. Therefore, it is timely that the opportunities it affords our industry are discussed at the highest level as we continue to contribute to a positive future for the tourism sector.”
