“Your baggage handlers are thieves”: Disgruntled United passenger alleges whiskey theft

An unhappy United Airlines passenger has taken to Twitter with a claim that his expensive whiskey, which he packed in his checked luggage, was guzzled by baggage handlers.

Christopher Ambler posted a photo of his Glenmorangie “A Tale of Cake” Highland Single Malt, currently priced at $499.99 on theka, with the seal open and a third of the scotch gone.

“Hey @united – bottle of expensive scotch in checked bag,” he wrote.

“Arrived opened and a third gone. No leakage. It was sealed new when packed and seal broken by opening. Your baggage handlers are thieves.”

United Airlines replied: “Hi there. We are sorry to hear about this. We encouraged [sic] to file a report by calling Baggage Resolution Center at 800-335-2247”.

This was followed by another message asking Ambler to DM details about his bag and flight so the matter could be escalated.

But fellow Twitter users took the post as an opportunity to dig into the situation, with one even posting a 2012-era meme about the situation.

Meme posted in response to Ambler’s photo (Twitter/@americangonk)

“Foul, foul, I say!” Wrote another user.

“Of particular concern is that they may have done something untoward to the remaining contents, rendering further consumption a dubious proposition,” they added.

Another jokingly admired the actions of the thief, writing: “What class… swigging like a king”.

While we can not condone these actions, we understand that sometimes a shift at work can be tough and an expensive scotch can really go down a treat at times like that.
