Artist creates hilarious national park posters using one-star reviews

When travel and the internet meet, it usually results in an extreme: it’s either groundbreaking or the absolute worst.

The best example of this phenomenon is, of course, online reviews. While accessible review platforms make travel much easier in terms of knowing what to bring, what to expect and what is expected of you when you reach your destination, not all reviews are… helpful.

Illustrator Amber Share, however, has managed to take some of the most misguided and uninspired online reviews of truly breathtaking destinations and turn them into hilarious posters.

Share has set up an Instagram account dedicated to the posters she has created advertising the United States’ national parks using one-star reviews as slogans.

While we understand lush greenery punctuated by remarkable natural landmarks may not be everyone’s cup of tea, we’d have to disagree with this reviewer’s conclusion that boiling some water at home is the same as visiting Yellowstone Park.

“Real one-star reviews of US national parks: apparently America’s best idea wasn’t all that great,” the tagline on Share’s Subpar Parks Instagram page reads.

According to her website, Share lives in Raleigh, North Carolina and is an illustrator and designer who loves to make work that celebrates “the outdoors, an active lifestyle, and the ups and downs of creative entrepreneurship”.

“Subpar Parks is a snarky love letter to the National Parks System,” she said of the project.

“When I discovered that there were one-star reviews for every single one of the 62 national parks, I set out to illustrate each park along with a hand-lettered, one-star review as a way to put a positive, fun spin on such a negative mindset.”
