The Australian Travel Industry Association (ATIA) has announced that director of membership and industry affairs Richard Taylor is leaving the organisation at the end of February.

During his time at ATIA,Taylor has played an important role in strengthening the association’s communication with members and the wider industry. His work has supported more consistent, open and responsive engagement across a period of significant organisational change.

He has also contributed to the growth and evolution of ATIA’s event and engagement program, including initiatives such as Beyond Borders, Beyond Borders On the Road and the NTIA Finalists’ celebration to connect and showcase the industry’s high achievers has helped deepen industry connection. These efforts have coincided with a period in which ATIA’s flagship events have become essential opportunities for industry insight, networking and discussion.

Following his departure, Taylor will begin a new venture focused on connecting people and businesses across the travel industry, while continuing to collaborate with ATIA on selected industry initiatives and emcee key events. He remains open to conversations about broader opportunities where his skills and experience can support the sector.

“Richard has made a meaningful contribution to ATIA throughout a period of considerable change for both the organisation and the industry,” ATIA CEO Dean Long said. “His focus on strengthening communication and building genuine connection with members has helped reinforce ATIA’s commitment to openness and industry engagement.

“He has contributed to making our national program of events including Beyond Borders, Beyond Borders On the Road and NTIA celebrations, key touchpoints for industry discussion, recognition and connection.

“We thank Richard for the energy and approachability he has brought to his role, and we look forward to continuing to have Richard be part of our broader team.”

“I’m proud to have been involved with ATIA during a period of significant change, and not just in its name,” Taylor said. “Reflecting on the last three years, the industry’s peak body has transformed to be an inclusive and responsive organisation becoming the natural home for all those in the travel industry. As ATIA continues with this program of inclusion, I look forward to contributing to this in a new way.

“Strengthening how we communicate with members and the wider industry has been a real privilege as has supporting the renewed culture of celebrating achievement from recognising NTIA finalists to seeing Beyond Borders become an essential moment on the industry calendar.

“I’m excited to be starting a new venture centred on connecting people across this incredible industry, and I’m also very open to conversations about how I can continue contributing more broadly.

“To my truly wonderful colleagues, ATIA’s equally wonderful members and the wider industry – thanks sincerely for your goodwill and support.”
