UPDATE 14 June:

Roy Merricks will take his next step with the organisation, joining the ATAS Advisory Committee and moving on from the Board after 2 years of dedicated service.

As a pioneer of and advocate for the mobile home-based agency model in Australia, Roy will continue to work closely with ATIA in a new capacity, by reviewing and leading the continued development of ATAS through his appointment to the ATAS Advisory Committee.

“My decision to join the ATAS Advisory Committee means I will continue to advocate for the mobile home-based network segment of the travel industry, which is the fastest growing segment in travel, and contribute to the ongoing evolution of the ATAS accreditation scheme to benefit our entire industry,” Merricks said.

Roy Merricks will join the ATAS advisory.

13 June:

The Australian Travel Industry Association (ATIA) has announced that Spiros Alysandratos will step down from the Board on Wednesday 19 June concluding 16 years as a director.

Commencing his role in July 2008, Spiros has helped shepherd the organisation and its member travel businesses through times of tremendous change, both to the organisation itself and the wider travel industry.

Spiros was made a Life Member of the organisation in 2019 to acknowledge the impact of his longstanding commitment to uniting the Australian travel industry.

“I’m incredibly grateful to have had the opportunity to serve on the board and advocate for a united voice for travel to advance the interests of our member businesses for 16 years,” Alysandratos said of his departure.

“It’s always been important that director changes are strategic, and after 16 years of service, it is now time to enable the next generation of industry leaders to contribute their ideas to ATIA’s board.

“As I reflect on challenges we have met, how we innovated, and what we’ve achieved, having a peak industry body to represent the Australian travel industry is still as important now as it was in 2008.”
