Atlas Obscura and Los Angeles Tourism have announced a new partnership that aims to create new ways to discover Los Angeles through keepsake materials.

The new spectrum of publications includes a special hardcover edition of the Explorer’s Guide to LA, an art-like official visitors map, a meeting planners guide, and the bespoke LA Luxury Guide.

The Explorer’s Guide to LA allows readers to discover curated itineraries by neighbourhood and features a collection of one-of-a-kind illustrations.

There’s a taco trek for foodie lovers, a dreamy stargazing guide and an outline of the hidden wonders found in LA’s Arts District.

A digital multi-layered interactive map allows tech-savvy travellers to explore neighbourhoods through specific itineraries.

QR codes included throughout the book will lead readers to the Atlas Obscura and Discover Los Angeles sites for more rare finds to add to their adventures across Los Angeles. These include:

  • Neighbourhood spotlights feature 30 of the city’s most iconic enclaves like Little Ethiopia, Leimert Park Village, Frogtown, the North Hollywood Arts District and more.
  • A Bucket List, With A Twist offers a second look at the icons of Los Angeles and what you may have missed on your first visit.
  • Top hidden gems to explore, ranging from secret sea caves and the secluded beaches of Palos Verdes Peninsula to the Valley’s sushi row. Pro-tips from locals who know.

“It’s been such a joy to work with the team at Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board,” Atlas Obscura co-founder Dylan Thuras said.

“For myself and the writers and editors on this project, many of them LA natives, getting to write and curate the official visitor’s guide to the city of LA was an absolute dream.

“We hope that these guides will inspire all the curious travellers arriving in LA, to try new things, as well as providing new adventures for longtime LA residents! There is really no limit to what LA has to offer.”

Adam Burke, president and CEO of Los Angeles Tourism echoed Thuras’ statements and highlighted LA’s diversity as one of its greatest strengths to be celebrated.

“Our bold new Official Visitor’s Guide leans into the unique voices of journalists from a variety of backgrounds who know and love our City of Angels as much as we do,” Burke said.

“We are grateful for our partnership with the team at Atlas Obscura to reimagine destination marketing materials with a fresh and innovative approach.”

To mark the occasion, Atlas Obscura is offering a bookable culinary trip to indulge in L.A.’s unusual street eats, bask in California sunsets, taste the best local wines, enjoy a quintessential L.A. movie night at one of city’s classic independent theatres and much more.

The Gastro Obscura ‘Los Angeles: America’s Culinary Frontier’ 5-day trip includes a stay in a stylish Hollywood hotel located in the heart of the city.
