Aurora Expeditions’ freshest vessel has been named on the Condé Nast Traveler 2026 Hot List.
The prestigious list is curated annually by Condé Nast‘s editorial team and recognises the world’s best new hotels, restaurants, cruise ships and experiences.
The recognition follows a successful debut season, and the ships’ recent feature in Time Magazine‘s World’s Greatest Places 2026 list.
Named after the legendary Australian geologist and explorer, Douglas Mawson is a purpose-built expedition ship that blends the intimacy of small-ship exploration with the cutting-edge technology designed for responsible travel.
At the centre of this technology is Ulstein’s innovative X-BOW, designed to reduce fuel consumption, noise and motion in rough seas.
The third ship in Aurora’s fleet, Douglas Mawson boasts capacity for up to 154 travellers on global voyages and up to 134 on polar expeditions.
Douglas Mawson‘s maiden sailing in December 2025 saw it circumnavigate Tasmania on an 11-night voyage led by scientist and adventurer Tim Jarvis.

Chief Marketing Officer at Aurora Expeditions, Katie Malone, said that the recognition reflects the strength of Aurora’s expedition offering.
“We are incredibly proud to see Douglas Mawson recognised by Condé Nast Traveler as part of its 2026 Hot List,” Chief Marketing Officer at Aurora Expeditions Katie Malone said.
“This acknowledgement reflects the strength of our expedition offering – combining innovative ship design with meaningful, experience-led exploration, and a deep commitment to responsible travel.”
This year, Aurora Expeditions celebrates 35 years of expedition travel, with an enduring commitment to the protection and preservation of the planet at the heart of each experience.
