Aurora Expeditions is offering travellers an opportunity to discover the Arctic with the cruise line’s founder, Greg Mortimer, on board the polar ship named after him.

Greg Mortimer (OAM) will be the expedition leader of the Arctic Circle voyage aboard the Greg Mortimer, a 15-day sailing from Scotland to Norway.

“I can’t wait to bathe in that exquisite Arctic light once again. It’s been a while. This time it will be even more surreal, being on a ship with my own name on it. I look forward to seeing you there,” Greg Mortimer, OAM said.

Departing Aberdeen on May 16, 2023, this special founder’s expedition will visit the remote Orkney and Shetland Islands, sail along the Norwegian coast, and explore the frozen wildernesses of Bear Island and Svalbard, before arriving in Longyearbyen on May 30.

Expeditioners will be immersed in heritage from the Stone Age to the Iron Age, from the Scots to the Vikings. Explore fjords, fishing villages and myriad islands. Check out the birdlife, glistening glaciers and towering cliffs. Spot whales, walruses and the elusive polar bear.

“We are thrilled Greg is to lead this fascinating Arctic journey. He is an inspiration to all who travel with him,” CEO Michael Heath said.

“His exploring and guiding expertise, gleaned over three decades, will be an enlightening experience and highlight many a little-known treasure, inlet, and wildlife experience for his fellow expeditioners.”

The Founder’s voyage, Across the Arctic Circle expedition is priced from AU$21,095 per person for an Aurora Stateroom Twin Share.

Expedition price includes overnight accommodation with ensuite and breakfast prior to expeditions; all meals, snacks tea and coffee during voyage; beer, wine and soft drink with dinner; all shore excursions and Zodiac cruises; all lectures; transfers; 3-in-1 waterproof polar expedition jacket; port charges, fees, gratuities and Wi-Fi. Optional activities available for this voyage are sea kayaking and scuba diving.
