A Brisbane family has been slapped with a whopping $30,000 phone bill from an overseas trip, despite asking a Telstra employee to switch their devices to international roaming.
Craig Piper told A Current Affair he had taken his and his wife’s phones and his daughters iPad to a Telstra store to turn on International roaming in preparation for a trip to Bali, but when the bill came it was apparent the telco had neglected to switch the iPad.

Piper said his daughter had watched a few videos and played some games on the device while they were overseas, using 10GB of data which equated to a bill of $29,325.
“We opened it up and saw the amount of money that they were asking for and we just couldn’t believe it,” he said, adding the bill had “put a lot of stress on our family”.
Naturally, Piper disputed the charges with Telstra and the telco agreed to waive the entire bill.
