The Islands of Tahiti saw a jump of 73 per cent in Australian visitors in 2023 when compared to 2022.
From the 1st of January to the 31st of December 2023, 7,718 Australians visited the destination compared to the same months in 2022 which recorded a total of 4 468 Australian travellers. In 2023, the Australian market was the fifth largest market and covered 2.9 per cent market share of tourist arrivals in the destination, after the USA, France, Canada and New Zealand.
Looking ahead at the first half of 2024, there are currently 976 flight bookings for arrivals in The Islands of Tahiti between January – June, which is an 8.8 per cent increase when compared to January to June 2023. The current market share for the first half of 2024 sits at 2.1 per cent, with the Australian market currently the sixth largest market of tourist arrivals in the destinations, sitting behind the USA, France, Canada, New Zealand and Japan.
As these bookings cover only half the year, the Islands of Tahiti anticipate a positive year-on-year increase in overall Australian visitors for 2024, and remains optimistic about sustaining last year’s growth throughout the rest of the year.
This jump in Aussie visitors to Tahiti comes alongside the announcement of the Tahiti Specialist Programme. This has been designed to excite and engage members of the travel industry to participate in a rewards-style programme that incentivises agents to not just sell the destination, but to immerse themselves in it.
In addition to ongoing destination training and booking support, as agents progress through the various levels of the programme, they will be rewarded with opportunities that include luxury and small group famils.
