Australia revealed as the ‘riskiest’ holiday destination for Brits

When you think of risky holiday destinations, does Australia come to mind?

Yes, we are home to all manner of spiders, snakes and poisonous sea creatures but surely we’re not all THAT bad?

Well, according to new research, we are. Particularly for British people.

MoneySuperMarket analysed their own data and Gov.uk data to find out what the riskiest place on earth is for British tourists and turns out it’s Australia.

The research was carried out to determine the top places where travellers do or don’t take out travel insurance and how risky the destination is based on how many claims have been made.

According to the data, for every 100,000 Brits visiting Australia, 1220.16 lose or have their passport stolen. This is more than Morocco (15.87), Bulgaria (47.83) and Poland (414.08) combined.

Australia also ranked third highest for thefts per 100,000 visits (3.45) just behind Jamaica (5.65) and Egypt (4.16).

Apparently, our only redeeming quality is our timely flights – only 15 per cent having over a 15-minute delay, 4th best in the study – and the low risk of local disaster (4 per cent).

Luckily for the Brits, we’re also listed number two on the list of destinations Britons are most likely to take out travel insurance before visiting.
