The 2024 AHA & Don Julio WA’s best cocktail competition nears it culmination as finalists are named for the live mix-off in June.
Entrants from across the state created and submitted their best cocktails for the competition. After customer voting, four came out on top as the finalists.
- L’Chaim (Fremantle) | Père Julio
- Lobby Lounge, Crown Perth (Burswood) | Coco del Sol
- Old Young’s Kitchen (Henley Brook) | Clearly Not Mary
- Frisk. Small Bar (Northbridge) | Frosty Fruit
AHA (WA) CEO Bradley Woods said: “The cocktail contest not only celebrates the art of cocktail making, it also gives hospitality venues across WA a chance to shine.”
The competition judges each cocktail on five key categories:
- Taste (30 points) – balance of flavour, aroma, harmony between ingredients, and finish.
- Aesthetic (20 points) – visual presentation of the cocktail.
- Authenticity and creativity (20 points) – ingredients, garnish, ice or glassware.
- Narrative (15 points) – the story behind the cocktail or connection to the venue or state.
- Promotion and price (15 points) – cocktail promotion and price point.
These finalists are to compete in a live mix-off at the 2024 AHA Hospitality Expo on 25 June 2024 to recreate and explain the story behind their cocktails.
