Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre (GCCEC) has appointed Avril Harris as director of event delivery, a newly created leadership role.
In the new role, Harris will lead and integrate the Centre’s event, operations and technology functions.
Harris’ appointment follows her recent role as executive director of events at Experience Gold Coast, where she led event strategy and stakeholder engagement across the city.
She brings more than two decades of event experience across executive leadership roles at Experience Gold Coast, Major Events Gold Coast and the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation.
Harris also led the Queensland Government’s Safer Schoolies project numerous times, alongside heading events management for various Government organisations including Department of Child Safety, Youth and Women, Department of the Premier and Cabinet, the Department of Education, Training and Employment QLD and the Department of Tourism, Major Events, Small Business and the Commonwealth Games.
GCCEC general manager, Nick Jeffrey, said the appointment reflected the Centre’s focus on further enhancing leadership and operational capability for the future.
“The scale and complexity of our operation require leadership that can connect people, systems and infrastructure around a shared standard of delivery,” he said.
“Avril will play a central role in strengthening how our operational teams work together, building accountability across the Centre and ensuring we are well positioned to meet the evolving needs of our clients.”
