Azamara Cruises has unveiled a new global brand campaign centred on the growing demand for more intimate and immersive travel experiences, positioning small-ship cruising as the future of premium travel.

The campaign, titled The Next Big Thing is Small, highlights the cruise line’s focus on destination immersion, longer stays in port and access to smaller, lesser-visited destinations that larger vessels cannot reach.

The launch comes as travellers increasingly prioritise authentic cultural experiences and meaningful connections over traditional sightseeing, according to the cruise line.

Smaller ships, bigger opportunities

Azamara Cruises CEO Dondra Ritzenthaler said the campaign reflects changing traveller preferences and reinforces the company’s long-standing commitment to destination-focused cruising.

“With ‘The Next Big Thing is Small’ we’re celebrating what makes travel truly impactful,” Ritzenthaler said. “The experiences that stay with us aren’t always the grandest moments — they’re often the unexpected conversations, the hidden discoveries, and the personal connections that happen when we have the time and space to fully immerse ourselves in a destination.

“We’ve always believed that smaller ships create bigger opportunities for those moments, and that belief has never been more relevant than it is today as travelers increasingly seek experiences that feel authentic, personal, and emotionally rewarding.”

The campaign is backed by new research commissioned by Azamara Cruises in partnership with Brand Alloy, which found strong support for the line’s destination-led approach among past and prospective guests.

According to the study, 77 per cent of respondents said Azamara best immerses travellers in destination and culture, while 83 per cent highlighted access to lesser-visited ports as a key advantage. Three-quarters cited longer time in port as a major differentiator and 79 per cent pointed to the intimate small-ship experience as a defining feature.

Guests also identified uncrowded spaces, downtown docking and personalised service from crew members among the brand’s strongest attributes.

The campaign will roll out across television, digital, social, print and trade channels, with creative focused on the emotional moments and experiences that define a journey.

Azamara Cruises chief marketing officer Lisa Kauffman said the campaign aims to challenge travellers to rethink how they explore the world.

“Across every channel, we’re inviting travelers to rethink what it means to truly see the world and to expect travel that feels more personal, more unhurried, and more deeply connected,” Kauffman said.

“Through powerful storytelling and immersive creative, we’re showcasing the journeys only a small-ship experience can unlock – from river sail-ins into the heart of historic cities to evenings spent in culturally significant venues through AzAmazing Evenings.”

The campaign also coincides with the next phase of Azamara Forward, the cruise line’s fleetwide enhancement program. The initiative includes refreshed accommodation, upgraded dining venues and enhanced social spaces across its four-ship fleet.

Azamara’s ships are designed to maximise time in destination through Extended Destination Days, featuring 10 or more hours in port, overnight stays in selected destinations and itineraries focused on smaller ports often inaccessible to larger cruise vessels.

The cruise line said the latest campaign reinforces its belief that, in an increasingly crowded travel landscape, smaller experiences can deliver the biggest memories.
