Bamboo Airways pulls the pin on Australian market as airline announces widespread restructure

Bamboo Airways has made a sudden departure from the Aussie market as the carrier announced a global restructuring and looks to sell its Boeing fleet.

Bamboo launched early last year with flights from Sydney and Melbourne to Ho Chi Minh as well as Melbourne to Hanoi.

The flights are no longer open for bookings with Bamboo’s site reading, “all flights unavailable.”

Last night, Brad Crawford, the national sales manager (AU/NZ) at Bamboo Airways made a post to LinkedIn announcing he had been made redundant.

“It is with a heavy heart that I advise all Bamboo Airways Australia staff have been made redundant including my National Sales Manager role,” the post read.

“The past two years were amazing.”

The culling of its Australian routes is part of a bigger picture for Bamboo, which will see the carrier discontinue all long-haul flights and attempt to sell its Boeing 787 aircraft.

An extended media release published by Bamboo Airways details the way in which the carrier will ‘chart a new course and push ahead with restructuring’.

“Bamboo Airways’ initial progress lays the foundation for long-term restructuring to rebuild the airline more efficiently and streamlined,” the release begins.

“This will enhance the company’s competitiveness, capacity, and autonomy, enabling it to become more self-sufficient, attract high-quality resources and strategic investors, and ultimately achieve its objectives.

“Over the past few months, Bamboo Airways has been steadfast in its commitment to ensuring the utmost safety, security, and excellence in service quality while drastically implementing comprehensive measures to enhance the efficiency of its production and business activities.”
