Global long-distance coach and rail operator Flix will commence services later this year along the East Coast starting with operations connecting major cities including Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne under the bright green FlixBus brand.
Looking to engage the assistance of local long-distance high-quality coach operators, FlixBuses promise to offer passengers a new standard of affordable, fully digital customer experience and sustainable travel. Passengers can expect to book trips via the FlixBus app or website, with the buses offering free Wi-Fi, power outlets, and real-time GPS tracking, a fully digital, end-to-end customer experience.
Call-out to local operators
Flix combines technology with local expertise through close cooperation with independently owned small and mid-size bus companies and has operated for over a decade in Europe and has successfully expanded across the Americas and India. It now operates in 44 countries and has carried more than 500 million passengers since launch in 2013. It also operates rail services in Europe.
“Australia has been on our radar for a long time, but the country’s unique geography meant it took us a bit longer to get there. However, the potential was always clear to us,” CEO and co-founder of Flix André Schwämmlein said. ˝This milestone marks the next chapter in our global journey, following over a decade of proven success in Europe and North America, and continued strong growth across Latin America, and India.”

Yvan Lefranc-Morin has been appointed to lead the Australian market, its 5th continent, and is relocating to Sydney where FlixBus is opening an Australian office. He will also oversee the development of the Australian business, reinforcing Flix’s long-term commitment to the market.
“Yvan has been part of Flix for over 10 years successfully building amazing businesses in important markets such as France and the Benelux region,” Schwämmlein added. This makes him the ideal entrepreneur within Flix to develop the Australian market, driving growth with an amazing team, fostering strong partnerships with operators, and to lead the company’s long-term investment in the region.”
Flix will follow its proven long-term partnership model, working closely with established local coach companies that bring valuable on-the-ground expertise and run the coaches day-to-day.
While retaining full operational ownership, they unlock new local job opportunities, becoming part of a global network of 1,000+ bus partners and over 4,000 buses, supported by 5,500+ Flix employees. As the network grows, so do their fleets, customer reach, and revenue.

Better-connected Australia
The Australian launch follows Flix’s successful expansion in India and continues its journey across the Asia-Pacific region, a market experiencing rapid growth in intercity coach travel due to population mobility, rising tourism, and increasing demand for sustainable alternatives.
“Australia is a very unique market, distance-wise, and in terms of Australians’ love for travel,” Lefranc-Morin added. “Local coach operators already deliver quality service, but globally, we have learned that keeping up with fast-moving digital expectations can be tough and expensive. Flix brings an opportunity to help local coach operators adopt new technology faster, expanding their passenger choice, upgrading the travel experience.
“Flix’s ambition goes beyond global expansion. We seek to create long-term value for Australian passengers and regional economies.”
