Bullo River Station is embarking on a redevelopment plan to further enhance its homestead and guest wing in 2026.
To allow adequate timing for these developments, the Station will be closed to guests throughout the 2026 season, and will re-open again in May, 2027.
The 2025 season will commence as usual, welcoming guests from April, running through to September.
Bullo River Station’s new chapter and vision for the guest spaces will be brought to life by Australian architects MJA Studio, who will work closely with Sibella Court, the Australian interior designer instrumental to informing the homestead’s last refurbishment in 2018.
Sharing their vision for the redevelopment, Alexandra and Julian Burt, co-owners of Bullo River Station, said, “Welcoming guests to our home in the outback has brought us immense joy since becoming the custodians of Bullo River Station in 2017. The experience of being on this breathtaking property has resonated with people in ways we could never have imagined, and their wonder and support have encouraged us even more to shore up the future of this most remarkable Australian gem.”
They continued, “After several years of major investment in the pastoral infrastructure and in the significant conservation work undertaken with our conservation partner, the Australian Wildlife Conservancy, we are now embarking on a redevelopment of the homestead and guest wing, the heart of the property.
“This is no small challenge, given the well-known history of these buildings and the memories that have been created in them over the decades. Our ambition is to honour that extraordinary legacy by re-creating the Bullo River homestead with all its most recognisable features, accompanied by new guest and team spaces, all designed to enhance the overall experience.”
The upcoming redevelopment will include more generous guest rooms and the development of a new two-bedroom family suite. The existing swimming pool, firepit and guest lounges will remain the focal points of outdoor relaxation, with additional new landscaping to further enhance this restorative feature of Bullo. A key focus of the redevelopment will be to ensure that Bullo River Station operates as energy-efficiently as possible. The new design will deliver guest spaces that require less cooling, whilst also increasing the property’s water capture and solar power generation abilities.
Bullo River Station will continue as a working cattle station throughout the redevelopment timeline and its partnership and work with the Australian Wildlife Conservancy remains uninterrupted.
Reservations for the 2025 season are currently open and information about reservations for the 2027 season will be announced in due course.
