Carnival Sensation made a dramatic rescue over the weekend after crew spotted a boat in distress off the coast of Palm Beach in Florida.
On Saturday, the ship, which usually holds 2,000 passengers, came to the aid of a small craft in distress around 37 miles off the coast of Palm Beach, the cruise line said in a statement.
Upon seeing the boat, Carnival Sensation maneuvered alongside it and provided blankets, life jackets, food and water to the 24 people onboard which included two children.
The crew brought the stranded passengers onboard after their boat began to take on water and they were evaluated by the ship’s medical team and quarantined away from crew members.
The crew notified the United States Coast Guard who dispatched a cutter to the scene to retrieve the stranded people.
Carnival Cruise Line has paused its operations with ships at a minimum non-operational manning status, with limited crew members and no guests on board.
The cruise line has paused all Australian sailings until at least 8 February 2021.
This comes as Carnival Corporation, the line’s parent company, warned guests and crew of a cyber attack across three of its brands potentially leaking private information.
