CGH Earth has revealed its newest accommodation, the Royal Library Suite, at the award-winning Ayurvedic palace retreat, Kalari Kovilakom.
Once a gathering chamber of the royal family of Vengunad, the room later evolved into a serene library designed to support the reflective journeys of guests undergoing Ayurveda treatments. Today, the Royal Library Suite has been thoughtfully restored and reborn retaining its historical essence while offering refined privacy and understated grandeur.
Set apart from the palace’s main rhythm, the suite features a discreet private entrance leading up a secluded stairway into an expansive, light-filled interior. Tall windows bathe the foyer in natural sunlight, while a private balcony opens to tranquil views and the whisper of ancient trees. Inside, a daybed invites moments of stillness and introspection, embodying the mindful pace that defines the Kalari Kovilakom experience.
The suite includes generous living and dining spaces, a bedchamber with two queen-sized beds, and two bathrooms—one accessible from the living area and the other from the bedroom. In keeping with the retreat’s Ayurvedic philosophy, meals are typically enjoyed in a shared dining setting that fosters community; however, the suite’s private dining area accommodates guests during essential treatment phases requiring rest and seclusion.
“The Royal Library Suite reflects our commitment to preserving the soul of Kalari Kovilakom while evolving its offerings for discerning guests seeking deeper privacy and meaning in their wellness journeys,” A CGH Earth spokesperson said.
With its layered past and tranquil present, the Royal Library Suite stands as more than a place to stay it is a living narrative of transformation, where history, healing, and heritage exist in quiet harmony.

Kalari Kovilakom
Often referred to as “The Palace for Ayurveda,” is a restored 19th-century palace dedicated exclusively to authentic Ayurvedic healing. Located in Palakkad, the retreat is widely regarded as one of the most immersive Ayurveda destinations in the world. Set within the historic grounds of the former Vengunad kingdom, the palace seamlessly blends royal heritage, cultural tradition, and holistic wellness.
Ayurveda experience
Ayurveda is a holistic healing system from ancient India that seeks balance between body, mind, and spirit through personalized lifestyle, diet, and herbal practices. It emphasizes prevention and harmony with nature, aligning daily routines with one’s unique constitution (dosha) to maintain overall well-being. The Kalari Kovilakom approach involves:
- Personalized treatment programs based on traditional Ayurvedic diagnostics
- Daily therapies administered under the supervision of qualified physicians
- Prescribed vegetarian diets aligned with treatment protocols
- Integration of yoga, meditation, and mindful living practices
- Healing environment enhanced by serene gardens, quiet spaces, and a disciplined daily rhythm
Cultural heritage & traditions
Reflecting the legacy of the Vengunad kings – renowned patrons of classical arts – cultural expression remains an integral part of life at the palace. Daily programmes often include Kathakali dance and Carnatic music performances, accompanied by traditional instruments such as the mrudangam, flute, violin, and harmonium. These performances, frequently inspired by mythological narratives, recreate the artistic ambiance of a royal court.
Kalari Kovilakom also shares a close association with the annual Kollengode Arattu festival, held during the first week of January in honour of the deity Avvappan. This vibrant celebration features majestic elephant processions and the rhythmic energy of Panchavadhyam, a traditional ensemble of five classical instruments, lending the region a festive, carnival-like atmosphere.
