Chiefs Tented Camps has opened Victoria Falls Tented Camp, a seasonal, private-use property on Zimbabwe’s Jafuta Reserve, about 15 minutes from Victoria Falls International Airport.
The camp is operating during the March to September 2026 season and was developed in partnership with Victoria Falls operator Shearwater.
It is aimed at the international incentive and group travel market, offering exclusive-use accommodation for groups that have struggled to secure availability at Victoria Falls during peak season, when boutique properties are often booked years in advance.
The initial setup includes 40 en-suite canvas tents accommodating up to 80 guests sharing, with infrastructure able to scale for bespoke groups of more than 100 guests.
Wildlife corridor
The Jafuta Reserve forms part of a wildlife corridor used by the region’s elephant population, which moves through the area between protected wilderness zones surrounding Victoria Falls.
The camp’s program includes guided nature experiences, river-edge sundowners, wildlife encounters, photography, and cultural activities with local artists and storytellers, along with elephant-focused conservation education linked to work in the region.
Through arrangements with ZimParks, guests can also access routes into Chamabonda and Zambezi National Park that see lower visitor numbers than some of the region’s more established access points.
Chiefs Tented Camps sourced decor and design elements from Zimbabwean artisans and manufacturers during development.
The camp operates off-grid, with plans to introduce solar power over time. Waste is managed through certified local partners in Victoria Falls.
“Victoria Falls has long been a leading incentive destination, but over time the availability of dedicated group inventory has diminished as the market shifted toward smaller boutique properties,” Chiefs Tented Camps’ Allan Johnston said.
“What we’ve created at Jafuta is a private canvas camp where groups can come together in one place, in the bush, without compromise, close to the Falls, but completely immersed in nature.”
Chiefs Tented Camps said interest in Southern Africa from Australian travel advisors and travellers has grown, with the region positioned as a long-haul alternative amid instability in other parts of the world.
Demand for multi-generational travel has also remained strong across the operator’s group and incentive business, with itineraries designed to suit a range of ages and activity levels.
