A toddler has been seriously injured on a luggage conveyor belt in Auckland airport on Thursday afternoon.
The two-year-old boy was carried by a conveyor belt into the airport’s luggage handling system before being discovered by security, reports Aukland Now.
The boy was taken to hospital with his mother after receiving first aid treatment and is in a stable condition.
Unfortunately we can confirm a young boy was injured this afternoon on a baggage conveyor belt in the departure area of the international terminal. The boy and his mother were taken to hospital.

The New Zealand Herald reports he suffered a serious arm injury.
An aviation security service spokesperson said an investigation is underway to try to understand how the incident happened, reports TVNZ.
“As soon as the child was detected, Avsec staff moved quickly to rescue him,” he said, according to the New Zealand Herald.
“They comforted the child and administered first aid until medical staff arrived.”
“Our first concern is for the welfare of the wee boy and his mum. We have also advised WorkSafe NZ this afternoon, and have started our investigation to find out how this happened,” Auckland Airport general manager of operations Anna Cassels-Brown said, according to TVNZ.
