Chimu Adventures has unveiled its new voyage, Frozen Chapters: A Literary Retreat to Antarctica, aboard the Ocean Nova, designed for travellers seeking both polar exploration and creative inspiration.

This expedition is a literary retreat in one of the most remote places on Earth. Travellers will cruise through the dramatic landscapes of the Antarctic Peninsula and the South Shetland Islands, discovering dramatic icebergs, glaciers, and abundant wildlife such as Adelie and gentoo penguins, Weddell and leopard seals, and whales.

Alongside this immersive wilderness experience, three of Australia’s renowned authors – Jane Caro AM, Jock Serong and Hilde Hinton – guides participants through thought-provoking writing workshops, Writers on Writing panels, and a book club focused on a specially-chosen title with an Antarctic twist, The Art of Breaking Ice by Rachael Mead.

Passengers are invited to bring a journal, a pen, and an open mind – set amidst the pristine expanses of Antarctica, this is an opportunity to reflect, write, create and connect.

Highlights

  • 13 days onboard the Ocean Nova, departing Ushuaia, Argentina and returning to Ushuaia.
  • Expert literary guidance from three gifted authors – turning the expedition into both an adventure and a creative retreat.
  • Daily Zodiac cruises and shore landings, enabling guests to explore bays, channels, and landing sites across the Antarctic wilderness.
  • Optional add-on adventures, including overnight camping on the ice, snow-shoeing, paddling excursions and the famed polar plunge.
  • Citizen Science involvement, where guests can participate in meaningful research programs like the NASA GLOBE Observer and seabird surveys.
  • Intimate expedition ship experience: The Ocean Nova carries just 80 guests, offering an exceptional guide-to-guest ratio and access to remote locations that larger ships cannot reach.

Frozen Chapters is crafted for travellers who are drawn not only to the majesty of Antarctica’s icescapes and wildlife, but also to the world of writing, reflection and creative connection. The journey provides:

  • Deep immersion in one of Earth’s last frontiers – inspiring creative ideas for readers and writers alike.
  • A chance to explore Antarctica ethically and sustainably, via a well-designed ship and experienced expedition team.
  • A community of like-minded travellers – book lovers, writers, artists and explorers – to share the journey and its stories.

Booking & pricing

The Frozen Chapters voyage is currently priced from $13,848 per person for a quad-berth cabin, based on the 25 November 2026 departure.

Cabins include features such as private bathrooms, picture windows, exterior views and writing desks – underscoring the creative focus of this journey.

Bookings are limited given the ship’s small size; travellers are encouraged to secure their places early to avoid disappointment.
