The Exhibition and Event Association of Australasia’s (EEAA) is celebrating the role women play in the events sector with its 2019 International Women’s Day Breakfast.
This year, the Association has a big focus on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) with its support of two important causes to improve the lives of women in our community.
EEAA Chief Executive, Joyce DiMascio said it’s important for our industry and our Association to contribute to improving the lives of women. This year the EEAA is supporting the National Heart Foundation in its campaign that promotes heart health and is pleased to continue the support of Fitted for Work.
“We invite you to join us at this important event where we will hear from an outstanding panel of leaders and support two important initiatives, Fitted for Work and the National Heart Foundation,” DiMascio said.
The EEAA is calling on participants to donate good quality corporate clothing, shoes and accessories to help disadvantaged women return to the workforce.
“Join us in listening to one of Australia’s leading cardiologists, Professor Clara Chow. Professor Chow has undertaken ground-breaking research that identifies the huge impact of heart disease, the silent killer that each day causes the death of three times more women than breast cancer.
“In addition, we will discuss the important contribution women make to our industry and what we can do as leaders, colleagues and friends to create environments in which people can flourish, whether they are women or men and no matter what stage of their career journey they are at.

The 2019 panel will tackle three key themes, Women in Leadership, Women Defying Stereotypes and Women’s Heart Health and Wellbeing:
- Professor Clara Chow is a pioneering researcher, acclaimed internationally for her work on heart disease. Professor Chow will discuss the importance of well-being and heart health – the invisible killer that each day causes the death of three times more women than breast cancer.
- The Hon Bruce Baird AM, Chairman of Business Events Sydney and former State and Federal Minister will discuss women in leadership and the importance of giving a voice to women in all spheres of business and political life.
- Supriya Shakya, Head of Digital at Reed Exhibitions Australia trained as an engineer in Nepal and is now leading some of the most innovative tech projects in the exhibition industry. She will discuss being a woman in a male dominated sector and what is possible for women in tech.
- Lynell Peck, Director of Culinary at ICC Sydney heads a massive operation in a role traditionally held by a man. She headed the design and delivery of ICC Sydney’s impressive culinary experience employing large numbers of young men and women.
- Georgie Chapman-Burgess, Operations Manager at Exhibitions and Trade Fairs and winner of the 2018 Richard Geddes Young Achiever Award and Tourism Australia scholarship, is one of our industry’s emerging leaders and bright stars who is the recipient of the inaugural Tourism Australia scholarship to attend the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry’s (UFI) Asia-Pacific Conference in Tokyo in March.
