Get the drop on all the latest from the world of river cruising with Cruise Lines International Association’s new educational course.

The new course, ‘World of River Cruising’, compliments the organisations existing elective European River Cruising and brings the total number of training courses available in Australasia to 81.

Available through CLIA’s member hub, the new course aims to take agents on a “virtual journey” along many of the world’s great inland waterways, including the Mekong, Yangtze, Mississippi, Amazon, Nile, Ganges, Irrawaddy, and Brahmaputra.

The new elective is designed to give agents a better understanding of what their clients can expect on each river, from the onboard activities and vessel design of major operators to the shoreside experiences offered along each journey.

It covers each river’s distinct features including seasonality, attractions, and pre/post-cruise options, while also providing insight on target markets and sales tips.

CLIA’s head of international training and development, Peter Kollar, said the new course was the latest in a string of new additions to CLIA’s suite of professional development opportunities.

“CLIA’s members’ hub now offers more than 100 hours of specialised industry training, including core units that provide fundamental cruise selling skills and electives that cover focused topics such as the new World River Cruising course,” he said.

“This is in addition to dozens of courses specific to individual CLIA cruise lines, which makes the members’ hub the most comprehensive source of cruise training available in Australia and New Zealand.”

Combined with the existing European River Cruising course, the new World River Cruising course allows travel agents to become river cruise experts. Those who complete the new course will earn 20 CLIA accreditation points.
