Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) is planning a spectacular night of entertainment for its 23rd annual Cruise Industry Awards next week, taking advantage of a larger venue to create a grand tribute to the Australasian cruise community.

More than 100 performers will take over the International Convention Centre (ICC) Sydney on 7 March as the industry celebrates its Australian and New Zealand trade partners, setting the scene for the biggest awards event CLIA has ever held in this region.

The night will be hosted by entertainer Tim Campbell who will take the stage alongside dozens of singers, dancers and other performers in an expanded format for this year’s gala celebration. The night’s entertainment will include young dancers from Sydney’s Brent Street performing arts school whose performances at the annual CLIA Awards have put a spotlight on the thousands of Australasian entertainers who have worked aboard the world’s cruise ships.

CLIA Executive Director in Australasia Joel Katz said almost 600 people would attend this year’s awards night, making it the largest celebration CLIA has ever held in this region.

“Our CLIA travel agent membership is bigger and more engaged than ever before, and we can see this reflected in the record number of nominations we received for this year’s awards,” Katz said. “In response, we’re going to turn up the spectacle and create a fitting salute to our members – one that really captures the spirit and excitement of our global cruise industry.”

A total of 83 finalists have been named from Australia and New Zealand and will be in the running to win one of 15 awards to be announced at the sold-out event. The night is supported by headline sponsor Visit Qatar, with the backing of award sponsors from across the CLIA cruise line membership.
