Coral Expeditions’ Jeff Gillies on what is (and isn’t) expedition cruising: Travel Weekly TV

This week we’re joined in the studio by Jeff Gillies, the director of commercial at Coral Expeditions. One of the original expedition cruisers in the Kimberley Region, Coral Expeditions has more than 40 years’ experience taking travellers to the most breathtaking coastline destinations in Australia.

Gillies has been at Coral Expeditions for seven years covering marketing, sales, and innovation.  He’s also involved in initiatives with the government as well as product development.

“For decades, they (expedition cruises) were the best kept secret in cruise and travel,” Gillies told us.

“The spirit of an exp is to take small groups of people, mostly people who are like-minded, and to take them to places that you can’t get to by road, rail or plane.

Our view, is that authentic or true expeditions still maintain that early spirit of not being too flash.

“It’s about connecting people with the nature and the culture and this history of that place and the people who are living in that place”.

“(It’s important) to not overwhelm those communities, to visit in a respectful manner and to leave with knowledge that you didn’t have before you went there.
